Chapter 35

After sharing her happy news and celebrating with her mother, Cindy, they brainstormed to come up with a new business plan. Ariel’s Angels was already busting at the seams in Lamar Thigpen’s fitness center. Ariel shared with her mother the idea she and Kyle discussed back in Houston.

“What would you say to taking over business here at the fitness center full time, and offering Connie a franchise in Marietta? A second location would attract some of the students from here to Connie’s new location. Maybe enough to eliminate the waiting list of new students.

“If you and Connie both coached full-time here and in Marietta, I could open a new facility in Houston after Kyle and I get married.”

Her mother thought it over for a couple minutes. She hated to see her daughter move away. Houston was about 800 miles away. Of course, Kyle could teleport them instantly for visits if he didn’t continue to age rapidly. That was another thing that worried her. Would Ariel become a widow way too soon? Nobody knew the future, but she could see in her daughter’s eyes she loved Kyle and it was obvious he loved her.

“I’m willing if Connie is,” her mother finally said. “We’ll also need to get Lamar’s blessing since we are changing the business arrangement.”

Ariel negotiated with Lamar and Connie over the next few weeks. Deals were struck, and a second Atlanta area facility was planned to be located near Marietta.

Meanwhile in Houston, Kyle worked with the realtor who sold him his house and they made an offer to the owner of a nearby vacant gym. The property owner was ecstatic to draw up a lease and agreed to all their requests to clean it up, repaint the interior, and expand the women’s lockers and showers, since it was going to be a girl’s training facility. The men’s locker and shower area would be converted to a small men’s restroom.

While these arrangements were being made, Ida and Michael started working on their own plans that germinated from a casual comment Michael made during their honeymoon in Cancun. Ida asked him if she should continue working as a waitress at the Italian restaurant. Michael joked that she should open her own restaurant in Old Town Spring. “You could walk to work,” he told her.

The idea stuck in the back of her mind. She tried to dismiss it. What did she know about running a business? Sure, she could cook, but there was so much more to running a successful restaurant than being a good cook. Look at all the restaurants that fail. But the idea persisted like a pupa struggling to bust out of its cocoon and become a butterfly.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be your own boss? Her subconscious would whisper in her ear when she thought about going back to work. Wouldn’t you love to be a part of that tight-knit business community in Old Town Spring?

After they returned to Houston and Ida moved into Michael’s house, she reminded him of his comment about opening her own restaurant.
